TVA announced Tuesday its operating costs were down in the first quarter of 2014, but the utility still posted a net loss.

The first quarter covered the last three months of 2013, and those were wet months in East Tennessee, resulting in a 30% increase in hydroelectric generation.

That increase helped drop TVA's overall expenses, but the utility still reported a net loss of $67-million dollars.

TVA says it normally sees a loss in the period between summer and winter, because there's a lower demand for electricity.
