The military continues to pump lots of money into East Tennessee, according to new numbers from the East Tennessee Military Affairs Council.
The organization announced Thursday morning the military generated more than $943 million for East Tennessee in 2013. ETMAC's analysis looked at account payrolls, construction, indirect jobs related to military personnel, and contracts to private businesses.
Last year's estimated impact was more than $80 million greater than the last time it was measured in 2011.
ETMAC's report shows the military is the largest employer in the Knoxville area with 18,482 direct jobs. The next largest employer is the Department of Energy in Oak Ridge with 14,350 direct jobs.
