A new tech business opened its doors in Market Square Wednesday.
Local Motors specializes in building innovative cars - some have electric motors and others have 3D printed parts.
The company recently agreed to a partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory to examine more efficient ways to build vehicles.
The Arizona-based hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new downtown Knoxville location at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
"We chose Knoxville as our next location because we're looking for places that are at the forefront of innovation," said Jay Rogers, Local Motors CEO and Founder.
The Knoxville Chamber said having Local Motors will reinforce the idea to other tech companies that this region is an innovative area, hopefully bringing more jobs to the area.
"We're paid by the American taxpayers, so if we can help the United States companies get a competitive edge, ultimately, there's huge returns not only for us but the country," Craig Blue, director of Manufacturing Demonstration Facility, said.
