Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett is asking the governor for help in getting a new forensic center for Knox and 22 surrounding counties.
UT Medical Center owns the current location of the Regional Forensic Center. When the contract runs out, the hospital will use that space for something else.
Mayor Burchett asked the governor for $10 million to get a new top-of-the-line facility where investigations like autopsies are performed.
"We have a good relationship, but I think to show the seriousness of where we're at in the community, it was important for us to load up and go to Nashville and visit with him about it personally one on one," said Burchett.
The mayor says it will be between 10 months and two years before they are forced to move out of the current location.
