A Southeast Tennessee coach's attempt to pump up his football team for a big game ended with his arrest.

Two weeks ago, police found the fieldhouse at Marion County High School vandalized. Police say the vandal spray-painted obscenities on the field house, a storage building, and the parking lot.

In total, police say the vandal caused $7,000 worth of damage.

After investigating the case, police now say Marion County High School teacher and football coach Michael Schmitt did the vandalism against his own school. Officers say they believe Schmitt was trying to motivate his team for a rivalry game.

They arrested him Wednesday on vandalism charges.
