The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is looking for volunteers to help park visitors at the Oconaluftee River Trail, Mountain Farm Museum, and fields along Newfound Gap Road near Oconaluftee Visitor Center in Cherokee. Volunteers are needed from mid-April through mid-November.

The volunteers will provide information to visitors regarding park regulations on protecting wildlife and proper waste disposal. They would also answer questions about the cultural resources found at the Mountain Farm Museum and natural resources along the Oconaluftee River Trail.

When elk are in the fields, volunteers will assist Park Rangers with traffic management and provide visitors with information on safely viewing elk.

All interested volunteers are required to attend one 6-hour orientation and training session on Friday, April 4 at 10:00 a.m. at the Oconaluftee Multi-Purpose Room near the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. To register for training or for more information, contact Kathleen Stuart at 828-497-1914.
