Three Metro police officers were decommissioned on Saturday after one of the officers was not immediately arrested when he allegedly arrived at his post drunk late Friday night.

Officer Nathan Silvers, 33, was arrested on Saturday afternoon on three alcohol- and DUI-related charges, becoming the second Metro officer to be arrested in as many days.

When Silvers arrived at the South Precinct around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, his supervisor, Sgt. Terrence Bradley, noticed he had bloodshot eyes and breath that smelled of alcohol, according to a release from the Metro Nashville Police Department.

After Silvers allegedly admitted to drinking six longneck beers in the afternoon before the shift started, he was disarmed and relieved from his duty, police said. His supervisors then chose to decommission him and have him driven to his Hendersonville home with instructions to return to police headquarters on Monday morning.

Police said that neither Chief Steve Anderson nor South Precinct Commander Paul Trickey were informed that no arrests were immediately made. Early Saturday morning, after Anderson learned of the situation, he ordered an investigation into the issue by Metro's DUI unit.

"All members of this police department are expected to conduct themselves in such a way that enhances the trust and confidence Nashville's citizens have in us," Anderson said in a prepared statement. "It goes without saying that supervisors should lead the way. The events of last night are serious and are being treated as such."

Silvers was charged on Saturday with driving under the influence, unlawful gun possession and refusing to take a blood test after an investigation by Metro's DUI unit.

His supervisors, Bradley and Capt. Ken Dyer, also were decommissioned on Saturday "pending a review of their decision-making rationale."

Police will begin an administrative investigation into the decision-making process, the release said.

Silvers was booked into Metro jail on $2,000 bond.

The alleged incident followed the Friday arrest of decommissioned Lt. Curtis Watkins on three counts of rape.
