A touching story about the friendship between a 3-year-old boy named Emmett and a WWII vet named Erling has gone viral. Social media, NBC News and even Perez Hilton picked up the story within days of its first airing on local television.
But when reporters went to check in on the now famous duo, what did Emmett and Erling want to talk about? The giant tomato growing in their garden and Emmett's bulging bicep.
"My muscle is huge!" says the toddler as he squeezes his raised arm. Watch the video above to see the proud look on his face.
Although Emmett and Erling seem oblivious to their new found fame, the toddler's parents say they are overwhelmed by the reaction. But they say it makes sense, too.
"I think people are craving good news," says Emmett's mom, Anika Rychner. "There just is not a lot of good news in the world."
An unexpected friendship has blossomed between a World War II veteran and his 3-year-old neighbor. VPC
Emmett's family will be moving about 15 miles away from their dear neighbor. But both sides have made a pact to get the two friends together as often as possible. In fact, the first invite has already been extended. Emmett turns four this fall and Erling is at the top of the guest list.
