(WBIR-Knoxville) A couple told police that three people robbed their east Knoxville apartment while holding them at gunpoint.

Officers responded the residence on River Maple Way shortly after 8:30 pm. The couple told officers they were about go into their apartment, when a unknown suspect came up and asked them a question. The male victim said as he was unlocking the door and talking to the suspect, two other suspects came down the stairs from the floor above.

All three suspects allegedly forced their way into the apartment and made the couple lay on the ground, according to a Knoxville Police Department release. One of the suspects pointed a gun at the victims.

The trio fled the scene after they stole cash and cell phones.

Still no word on the suspects or any leads.
