A Whitley County woman is facing animal cruelty charges in a horse's death.

The sheriff's department says it checked out a call of a horse that was struggling to survive Sunday in Rockholds, Kentucky. They say the brown horse had been lying in mud for several hours without help.

Animal Control says it had responded to the house several times to check on the horse. This time, they had to euthanize the horse because of its condition.

Prosecutors charged 45-year-old Cindy Gabbard with animal cruelty.
