The man who walked out of court after being convicted of attempted murder has killed himself, said the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

Svante Hinton, 35, was found guilty of attempted second-degree murder in July. When the jury returned to the courtroom to read a verdict on other charges in the case, Hinton didn't show up.

A few days later, Hinton was added to TBI's Top 10 Most Wanted list.

An investigation led officers to a motel on Asheville Highway Monday afternoon. When they knocked on Svante's motel room door, they said they heard a gunshot inside the room and a woman screaming.

When they opened the door, officers say they found Hinton dead with a single gunshot wound to the head.

The woman in the room was questioned and released without charges.

Hinton faced a minimum of 22 years in prison.
