The flu is hitting Middle Tennessee hard this winter.

Doctors today say it has killed 19 in Middle Tennessee; that surpasses the death toll from the 2009-2010 season.

Vanderbilt University says most of the deaths are among people between 41 and 64. Most are blamed on H1N1.

The outbreak isn't as bad in East Tennessee, but it is deadly. Four people have died and UT Medical Center has treated 175 cases so far. That is actually down a little from last year.
