A 12-year-old passenger of a church bus that crashed has been released from the hospital.
A bus and tractor trailer collided in northwest Knoxville Sunday morning, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
KPD said the Knoxville Baptist Tabernacle bus carrying seven people was trying to avoid a turning car when it lost control and hit a telephone pole.
The bus crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic where it struck a Total Transportation of Mississippi tractor trailer head on.
It happened near the intersection of Central Avenue Pike and Dutch Valley Road just after 9:00 a.m.
Rural Metro said their paramedics evaluated and treated patients on the scene. KPD said the passenger transported to the hospital had non-life threatening injuries.
A section of Central Avenue Pike was closed briefly while KUB repaired the utility pole.
Knoxville Baptist Tabernacle's website says the church operates a bus ministry that provides transportation to people all over Knoxville who want to attend their church.
