It might not be the holiday season, but the summer season is one of the biggest times of need for the Salvation Army.

The organization is calling on East Tennesseans to help it through a slow season of donations. Officials say many families who need help from the Salvation Army have an especially tough time during the summer because kids aren't getting school lunches.

"People on a very tight budget, when you've got people living at home all the time, you know kids eating at home now, that really strains a financial budget. So they come to us with more assistance with food," said Albert Villafuerte.

The Salvation Army is asking for bottled water and fans, along with non-perishable foods.
