By the time you've spent almost a century on this planet you have probably done and seen a lot.

But there's still fun to look forward to. A man in Sevier County is taking his birthday to new heights.

"In September, the 18th, he is going to be 99 years old," Donna Wasman said.

Next month is her father's official birthday. Mac McCauley will celebrate it with a small party at Wellington Place in Sevierville where he lives.

His daughter Donna Wasman came up with an early gift after they were driving through Pigeon Forge

"I happened to be at an angle and I said, look, they've built a new Ferris wheel. And he said oh I look those and I said would you like to ride and he said yes absolutely I would like to ride," she said.

It didn't take much to convince Mac.

"He's pretty much game to try anything," she said.

The Great Smoky Mountain Wheelis big, 20 stories high.

Mac settled in for the ride with a big smile. Donna Wasman and their friend Kimber Rose enjoy it as much as he does!

"It's totally awesome you've got to do it. everybody has to do it," Kimber Rose said.

The ride features 42 gondolas that can seat up to eight people. But the folks at The Islandtreated Mac to the the VIP Experience. Mac seemed to enjoy the specially outfitted gondola with plush leather bucket seats and a view straight down through the glass floor.

After the last rotation they stepped out of the gondola back on the ground but Mac's spirits wer still sky high.

"Oh, it was great. Great, great, great," Mac McCauley said with a laugh.

It was a great adventure on a big wheel for big birthday number 99.
