Two City of Knoxville departments that don't usually work together are teaming up, in hopes of protecting you.
The Knoxville Police Department and Waste Connections kicked off their Big Blue is Watching You program on Tuesday. The idea is for garbage collectors in their big blue trucks to be on the lookout for suspicious characters during the day.
Vice Mayor Nick Pavlis says there have been a number of home break-ins during the day when people are out working, but since Waste Connections employees spend their day in residential neighborhoods they can be on the look out.
"Wouldn't you like to be the reason to brag to your other buddies back at work that we helped the City of Knoxville Police Department catch the bad guy, I would!" said Douglas McGill with Waste Connections.
The program will begin with 50 employees on 23 routes, five days a week.
