An officer working at the Knox County detention facility found himself on the other side of the bars Friday.
The sheriff's office says 19-year-old Michael Sweat stole jewelry belonging to inmates. He's accused of taking the items from the bags where they're stored until inmates are released. Then he allegedly pawned the jewelry for more than $1,000.
Sweat worked as a property officer at the detention center for less than a year.
He's been fired and charged with theft.
