STATESVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina church has held its weekly services just days after six members were killed in a fiery bush crash in Tennessee while returning from a gospel festival.
Front Street Baptist Church in Statesville remembered the missing members of its congregation during its regular service Sunday.
Church members told our NBC-affiliate in Charlotte, WCNC, that they wanted to be there to show support for the church and the community.
The church members killed Wednesday ranged in age from 62 to 95. The church's seniors group was returning from its big annual outing, a three-day festival in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Their bus blew a tire, veered across a highway median and crashed into a sport utility vehicle and tractor-trailer.
The 24-year-old SUV driver from Knoxville, Tenn., and the 66-year-old truck driver from New Orleans were also killed.
Memorial and funeral services for the church members have not been finalized.
