Hundreds of fish raised at the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute were released into the wild on Wednesday.

Students from a fifth grade class at Gap Creek Elementary helped state and local biologists release 1,100 lake sturgeon into the French Broad River. Biologists from the aquarium institute, TWRA and UT will monitor the fish using sonic tags starting next month.

The students have helped care for one of the fish since the beginning of the school year and recorded information about the fish and their environment.
