More than one hundred thrill-seekers departed from Knoxville's Outdoor Adventure Center early Friday morning, bound for the Anderson County starting line for a thirty mile adventure race.
The race is expected to take about 30 hours to complete as participants hike, bike, paddle, and rappel they're way through an unknown course using maps and checkpoints, ultimately crossing the finish line back in downtown Knoxville. Caycee Armstrong of Knoxville started the morning with her team pouring over a map, pinpointing possible routes and check points.
Armstrong says she knows it will be a long and cold night as they make their way through the area's Urban Wilderness, but she's looking forward to the finish line.
"I think more of it is the accomplishment afterwards I think if feels like 'yes, i did it'. And plus- it's in Knoxville so we were like we have to do it." said Armstrong.
For adventurers who want a similar experience in less time, the inaugural edition of the TN Adventure Challenge will kick off Saturday morning at the Outdoor Knoxville Adventure Center.
The course features trail running, mountain biking, stand up paddleboarding and should take participants anywhere from 4-6 hours.
