As the sun set Thursday on UT's campus, people from across the community came together to bring light to darkness for a fundraiser that centers on cancer research.
The 12th annual Light the Night Walk gave people a chance to show their support for people affected by cancer.
UT's softball team joined in the event, walking with Averi Ramsey, a special young member of the softball team going through her own battle with cancer.
"At first we thought we were going to have a great impact on this little girl, and it's been the exact opposite; that little girl has had an amazing impact on us," said Karen Weekly, head coach.
During the walk that was a little more than a mile, walkers carried brightly lit balloons: red for supporters, white for survivors, and gold to honor the memories of loved ones lost to cancer.
