Five East Tennessee non-profit groups received a generous gift on Wednesday.
The Trinity Health Foundation handed out a total of $750-thousand dollars in grants to organizations that work to promote the physical, emotional and spiritual health of East Tennesseans.
The grant winners include the Breakthrough Corporation, Compassion Coalition, Emerald Youth Foundation, Inter-Faith Health Clinic and U-T Medical Center's Department of Pastoral Care.
Each helps the poor and under served in Knox County and surrounding communities.
"Their resources are limited and their funding is sometimes not consistent. So what our board wanted to do is to explore where we could have the most impact with these particular companies, also leverage their resources, both their people and their money, to further and touch more folks in our community," said David Haynes, Vice Chairman of the Trinity Health Foundation Board.
The grants are part of a multi-phase initiative to address community health needs. The board sought proposals from dozens of organizations, then selected the winners based on their plans to address identified needs.
