SunTrust Bank is lending a hand to help East Tennessee Children.

Tuesday the bank gave a $50,000 grant to the Halls-Powell Boys and Girls Club. The money goes toward academic programs like homework help, tutoring and college preparation.

The director of the bank says it's something everyone can get behind.

"It's a calling in which we all serve in our communities; we have our professional day jobs but individually we want to give back and that is something that each and every one of us at Sun Trust. It's in our DNA that we give back to the community in which we serve," said Grant Boyd, managing director of SunTrust Bank.

Three out of 10 Americans do not graduate high school on time. The money is part of an effort to fight that problem.
