(WBIR - West Knoxville) Bobby Waggoner on Saturday officially kicked-off his election campaign for Knox County Sheriff.
Dozens joined Waggoner for a breakfast event at Wright's Cafeteria in West Knoxville.
Waggoner told WBIR 10News he's running against incumbent Sheriff J.J. Jones because he feels it's time for a change in the county.
"I have worked all of my career, 44 years, in law enforcement and I'm a professional and I think the Knox County Sheriff's Office needs to be professional," Waggoner said.
Waggoner grew up in East Tennessee and said he's lived here for the past twelve years. Most recently, he entered retirement after serving as the chief of detectives for the sheriff's office.
Knox County Sheriff J.J. Jones formally launched his re-election bid at the end of October. The two will face off in the May 6th primary.
