(WBIR, Knoxville) - Amazon is expecting its biggest sales day of the year on Monday.
Last year, the company filled 306 orders per second on Cyber Monday, and those numbers are projected to be higher this year.
"That's 26.5 million orders in one day and almost 16.5 orders shipped on Cyber Monday. So we are talking just huge, huge, huge numbers," said Kiesha Cochrane with Amazon.
On Cyber Monday, WBIR 10News was allowed inside one of the fulfillment plants in Chattanooga where thousands of people are employed.
It's a massive warehouse the length of 28 football fields and 1.2 million square feet.
Amazon brings in extra staffing for the holiday season to keep up with demand.
"We staff up. We have lots of great employees especially here in Chattanooga. We've hired thousands of people here locally, and they come in all hours of the day to make sure customers get their orders on time," said Cochrane.
Online shopping continues to grow. Last year, consumers spent more than $1 billion on Cyber Monday, and that number is expected to go up this year.
"It's a huge deal and people are excited about it. You are able to shop from the comfort of your own home and have items shipped directly to your doorstep. I mean what's not to like about it," said Cochrane.
On Cyber Monday, Amazon will be adding deals to its website as often as every ten minutes. There will also be hundreds of deals every day this week.
