East Tennessee could see a lot of rain over the next week, perhaps as much as we normally see in a month this time of year. So TVA is taking steps now so they'll prepared for all that extra water.
The forecast is calling for the potential of heavy rain Friday into Saturday morning, and again Sunday night into Monday
TVA is running hydro turbines at maximum capacity at dams on the main river this week, including Fort Loudoun and Watts Bar, to get rid of as much water as possible.
Levels at the tributary dams are already at winter pool, or their lowest levels.
"TVA follows a seasonal operating guide where we lower reservoirs in the fall and that allows us to be at our lowest levels by winter time so we can store the heavy rainfall that we typically expect to get during the winter months," said James Everett of TVA's River Forecast center.
This summer, we set rain records in East Tennessee, and TVA had to spill water at several dams to control lake levels.
