(WBIR-Scott County) Scott County Sheriff Mike Cross passed away Sunday morning after a battle with cancer.
The Scott County Sheriff's Department tweeted the following on Sunday: "Today we lost a brother, a leader, a man of God & man of Justice. Sheriff Mike Cross will be remembered. His legacy will always carry on."
WBIR 10News spoke with Kris Lewallen, a drug agent for the Scott County Sheriff's Department about Sheriff Cross.
He said Cross spent his career in law enforcement, including several years as Oneida's Police Chief. Cross was elected Sheriff in 2010 and was serving in his first term.
Lewallen also said Chief Deputy Ronnie Phillips has been filling in for Sheriff Cross during his battle with cancer.
In November, county leaders had asked the community to pray for him.
