(WBIR) Total strangers are helping support an East Tennessee child and his family as they fight through a rare disease.

The group Knoxville Pays it Forward hosted "Cole's Crazy Bounce Party" at The Zone Sports Complex.

Cole is six years old and has brittle bone disease and cancer. The people who organized the event said they didn't know the family personally but wanted to help them with medical expenses.

Cole's mother said he's been tough throughout his treatment.

"When he got his first round of radiation to the head, everybody said he would be tired and every time he went to radiation as soon as he woke up and got something to eat he was ready to go," Jessica Cross said.

The Comfort for Cole group announced on its Facebook page that they raised $5,035 for Cole and his family during Sunday's event, plus another $3,000 raised online.

Cole's mother said Monday is his last scheduled radiation treatment. Then, he'll begin a year of chemotherapy.
