(WBIR) Today is your last chance to help Appalachian children and families have a merrier holidays.
The Mission of Hope "Christmas Barrel Drive" ends Monday, December 9th. All you have to do is look for the blue barrels and drop in non-perishable food, new clothes, and new toys at any participating Food City, Chick-fil-A, Kmart, Home Federal, Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union, CVS, or Sears locations.
This is the 18th year of the Christmas Campaign. The first campaign served 150 children in 1996. Today, the campaign hopes to provide food, new clothing and toys to more than 17,000 children and their families.
And these items are desperately need, especially during this time of year says Mission of Hope volunteer Shawna Dittrich.
"We can provide the warm clothing, shoes, socks, and everything that they need to have a good school year," she said. "It's cold here but it is desperately cold up in southeast Kentucky and northeast Tennessee and these children are school age and they're growing so they are going to outgrow the coat we gave them last year so so we desperately need warm, warm coats for them this year."
