The Knoxville City Council gave first approval to a number of issues Tuesday including road ownership and a measure that could open the door for more breweries.

The council voted to transfer ownership of several city streets on UT's campus to the university. That would make the university responsible for cleaning and maintaining the streets, and it would also allow the university to close them or redirect traffic when needed.

Additionally the council approved a proposal that would change zoning regulations for breweries, wineries, and distilleries. They want to change the current ordinance to open up more chances for those businesses to open in the city.

The council still must give final approval to both measures.
