A Tennessee police chief says he will continue to enforce his city's efforts to fight meth despite a ruling from the attorney general's office saying those efforts are illegal.

Tuesday, the state attorney general said any city or county efforts to make cold medicine available by prescription only is illegal. The state's top lawyer says the local ordinances in almost 20 cities violate state laws.

Despite the ruling, the police chief in Winchester, which is west of Chattanooga, says his city will continue to enforce the law.

It would take a legal challenge to make the cities or counties stop enforcing the rules.
