It's not new for stores to extend their hours during the holiday season, but at least two stores are taking it a step further.
(WBIR - Knoxville) December 25th is just around the corner and stores are doing what they can to help make things easier for last minute shoppers.
The sounds of scanning items and cash registers opening and closing will be heard at Kohl's 24 hours per day for several days.
The business announced for the first time it will open its doors at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, December 20th and won't close them until 6:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Chris Arnold, manager of West Knoxville's Kohl's, said, "Traditional store hours aren't always accommodating to everyone." He continued, "We'll be open at 2:00 a.m., 3:00 a.m. We'll be fully staffed in all of our departments. The expectation is that we are going to give great service no matter what time you shop."
Another store that will be open for days straight is Toys "R" Us. The toy store will open at 6:00 a.m. December 21 and close at 9:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Unlike the retail giants, some local businesses aren't able to do the same.
Fizz in Market Square said it doesn't see the need for the their store to stay open around-the-clock.
Salesperson Abby Stanley said, "Usually, our busiest times are around when people come down to the square and go out to eat and they want to look around at some shops. So 6:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m., but around 10:00 p.m. everyone starts to thin out."
Stanley said she's noticed an increase in foot traffic at the store over the past few weeks. The store can't compete with the round-the-clock hours, but Stanley said Fizz is able to compete by offering rare items.
"We have a lot of unique things here that you won't find anywhere else, like local artistry and our boss actually makes a lot of the jewelry herself," Stanley said.
