(WBIR) A teacher, leader, and best friend who passed away earlier this week was remembered Saturday night.
Friends, family, and co-workers gathered at Fairview Baptist Church to share memories and honor Ronnie Patterson, a Knoxville Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad Member.
For more than three decades, Patterson taught hundreds of emergency responders. People who knew him said it was his calling to help anyone, any way he could.
"He would come around Christmas time and check on people if we had a family that was in need of something or in dire straights, Ronnie would go out and buy Christmas for them. If guys were having trouble at work, and if guys are having trouble getting to work, he would give them gas money to get to work, that's the kind of guy he was," said Ed Cate, who met Ronnie back in 1981.
There will be a procession in his honor as family and friends proceed to Hamblen Memorial Gardens Sunday afternoon for the graveside service.
