(WBIR) This week's unusually cold weather created problems across the area that shuttered businesses and schools.
Crews have been kept busy responding trying to repair bursting pipes. In Downtown Knoxville, the Supreme Court and Appellate Court offices are closed until Monday due to a water main break outside the court building.
KUB said the record cold has led to a higher than normal number of water main breaks in its service area. The utility provider said its crews are working to make repairs as problems occur.
However, once repairs are made customers may notice their water could look different. KUB is reminding customers that water may temporarily appear milky or cloudy. They say its often caused by air that was trapped in the water lines.
Although the water might not be clear, KUB said its still safe to drink.
KUB said you should pour a glass of water and let it sit out to ensure that air in the lines is causing the milky appearance. If the water clears up, then all you should need to do is run the water for a few minutes to flush the lines and remove the air.
If your water doesn't clear up, call KUB at 524-2911.
