(WBIR-Alcoa) Police said sun glare caused a wreck that killed an Oliver Springs man and injured another person on I-140E Sunday morning.

Officers said the accident first involved two vehicles in the eastbound lanes of Pellissippi Parkway between Topside Road and Alcoa Highway.

Police said a Knoxville man was momentarily blinded by the sun and rear ended a pickup truck driven by Eddy Palmer, 73, of Oliver Springs.

Palmer's truck wound up facing the opposite direction in the eastbound right-hand lane after the initial collision.

Before officers arrived at the scene, a third driver was then blinded by the sun as he approached the initial wreck and also crashed into Palmer's pickup truck.

According to authorities, that second crash pushed the pickup truck into Palmer, who had been standing next to his truck.

Palmer was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the third vehicle was taken to Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center for non life-threatening injuries.

The crash closed Pellissippi Parkway eastbound lanes for several hours Sunday from Exit 9 to Exit 11A, which is the exit for Alcoa Highway South.
