A new report examining the state of all 50 states, and the District of Columbia, has Tennessee ranked near the bottom.

Politico.com crunched numbers from sources like the US Census Bureau, the FBI and the Centers for Disease Control.

The report looked at factors like graduation rates, life expectancy and crime and then averaged out those 14 factors to rank the states. In the end, Tennessee ranked 48th out of the 51 possible participants.

The Volunteer State ranked in the bottom 10 states in 11 out of the 14 categories including obesity rate, life expectancy and unemployment rate. Tennessee actually ranked 50 out of 51 when it comes to the state's crime rate.

The only category that had Tennessee in the top half was home ownership.

New Hampshire ranked as the top overall state in the article, while Mississippi came in last.
