(WBIR-Knoxville) The Knoxville Police Department said a man was shot in the chest early Sunday morning in East Knoxville.

Few details were available, but according to Sergeant K. Brian Bush, around 9:30 a.m. Sunday officers responded to the 2800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue for reports of a man with a gunshot wound seen behind a home.

According to a witness, the man had been shot earlier in the morning and did not want help from police or emergency responders.

Officers said the man was uncooperative and unable to provide details about what happened.

The victim was taken to UT Medical Center for what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries.

Forensic technicians are still investigating.
