A University of Tennessee football legend received a very special picture Thursday evening.
Artist Alexander Dumas presented a painting to Richard Pickens during a special ceremony at Clarity Point. Pickens was the Vols' starting full back under head coach Doug Dickey from 1966 to 1968.
In the painting, Pickens is carrying the game-winning ball in the 1967 SEC championship game against Bear Bryant's Alabama Crimson Tide.
Dumas says Pickens asked him to paint the picture more than 17 years ago.
"He came by to pick it up, showed up in a VW. Painting won't fit in a VW. He says 'I'll give you my new address, I'll let you know.' Seventeen and a half years go by-- no Richard Pickens. I figured one of us was gonna die first," said Dumas.
Dumas has been painting for almost 60 years and is self taught. Paintings from his "War Series" were also on display Thursday.
