A Knoxville church is raising money to help local families meet their monthly food needs. Cokesbury United Methodist Church is hosting their annual consignment sale through Saturday night.
Thirty percent of the cost of every item sold benefits the Manna House food pantry. Manna house serves 850 families a month and gives those families an opportunity to shop for food items located on Cokesbury's north campus.
Organizers say they hope to exceed the amount of money they raised last year.
"Our last sale raised $5,000 for Manna House and we're hoping we can raise even more this year we have about 30 new consigners and we have a whole lot more merchandise out on the sales floor so we're hoping we can raise more than that. It takes about $12,000 a month to run the food pantry because we have so many families that come through each month," said Liza Hutchison, Cokesbury outreach assistant.
Cokesbury's consignment sale continues Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
