The East Tennessee Preservation Alliance released its newest list of endangered places around the region.

The alliance designates these places based on their historical significance to their towns and the area as a whole. Then, they work with the communities to find preservation solutions for the endangered properties.

Among the most prominent locations is the Tennessee Military Institute, which closed down in Sweetwater in 1988 and later became a Japanese high school.

Old Morristown College also made the list. The school is one large historical rune; seven of its nine standing buildings are on the national register of historic places.

And one of the places that may soon find itself off the list is the Brushy Mountain State Correctional Complex in Morgan County. The town of Petros is working to turn the old state prison into a distillery, and would bring dozens of new jobs to the area.
