(WBIR) Spring is just a week away and several popular outdoor destinations are reopening for the 2014 season after hibernating for the winter.
TVA Campgrounds Open
The Tennessee Valley Authority's campgrounds are now open to campers. TVA manages six campgrounds that are scheduled to remain open until November 17, 2014. They include Cherokee Dam, Douglas Dam Headwater and Tailger, Melton Hill Dam, Pickwick Dam Tailwater, and Watauga Dam Tailwater. In total the TVA grounds have more than 350 campsites.

Smoky Mountains Stagger Schedule
Friday some very popular spots in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park reopened for the 2014 season. That includes the Elkmont Campground and some group campsites at Cades Cove.
Over the next few weeks, the National Park will open the other campgrounds and some secondary roads that are closed during the winter. The full campground schedule and reservations may be made at recreation.gov.
For more information on park events, please visit the park's website at http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/events.htm.
Another big attraction gets back up and running in the Park on April 24. That's when the LeConte Lodge at the top of Mount LeConte opens for 2014. It remains open until November 25. Although the cabins at LeConte Lodge are inside the National Park, they are operated by a private vendor. You can find more information at www.lecontelodge.com.
