A key figure who's helped the drug addicted and those who suffer from mental illnesses in Knox County is retiring.

Andy Black from the Helen Ross McNabb Center told 10News he plans to retire.

Black has worked at the center for 27 years. He has been instrumental in efforts to build a new safety center for low-risk criminals and inmates with mental illness. He is hoping the Helen Ross McNabb Center will get the contract to run it.

He says his last day will be June 30th.
