The Community Step Up organization hosted a workshop Saturday for ex-convicts.

Former convicts had the chance to apply for jobs, get their driver's licenses and earn the right to vote.

Organizers say the small steps make a big difference.

"When a person goes to prison, not only are they going to prison, but there's been another victim, okay," said chairman Dr. Joseph Kendrick. "So if we stop people from going back to prison, we also stop other families from being victimized. We're also stopping people from spending $38,000 a year to incarcerate a well inmate."

Community Step Up says their goal is to connect as many struggling people regain their sense of belonging.
