Hundreds of volunteers spent their Saturday cleaning up the Tennessee River.

Saturday marked the 25th anniversary of the Ijam's Nature Center's River Rescue Event.

Volunteers picked up all sorts of things from the river, including plastic bags, soda cans and bottles.

"The river is a great asset...not only to the wildlife," said zone manager, John Shank. "But it also instills a sense of pride in the community and it really makes you feel like this is your town."

He says another way to help from home is to use appropriate trash methods or recycle.
