(WBIR) Fifteen East Tennesseans left Thursday morning to help areas ravaged by tornadoes earlier this week.

The volunteers and staff from the East Tennessee Red Cross will be traveling to Mississippi, Florida, Arkansas, Alabama, as well as Middle Tennessee.

Red Cross spokesperson Michelle Hankes said the road to recovery will be long.

"This series of storms was very broad across the United States, and it's not done yet. It's hitting the New England area with flooding, so we're looking for volunteers all across the country," said Hankes.
