TVA is working to protect archaeological sites that could be coming into view, including some they say may look like parts of the beach.

TVA shared photos with us showing damage and looting at some sites across our area.

It's a federal crime to remove artifacts or vandalize any of its more than 11,500 archaeological sites. TVA says they try to preserve and protect the history for future generations.

"If you do come across an old homestead, and you see a bunch of old bottles lying around on the surface, you know take pictures of them. You know it's okay to visit those sites and check them out and take photographs of these things but don't take them home," said Erin Pritchard, TVA archaeologist.

If you see any suspicious activity or digging on the public land, you should call TVA's toll free number at 1-855-476-2489.
