(WBIR) Park officials have closed Rainbow Falls trail after a fire started in the park Thursday night.
A small plane spotted the fire in the general vicinity of Mt. LeConte at about 9:30 p.m. The next morning, the employees at the Park Vista Hotel said they could see smoke coming from the side of Mt. LeConte.
NPS fire crews arrived at the scene of the fire Friday morning. They report about 10 acres is burning in a natural fire zone. No structures are threatened, including those at Mt. LeConte.
The flames are slowly spreading, but firefighters expect it stay confined to the Rocky Spur area because there's not that much to burn in the area surrounding it, and the expected rainfall.
Rainbow Falls trail is the only area closed at the time, and the fire isn't threatening the LeConte Lodge, according to park officials.
