Hawkins County law enforcement took the day Wednesday to remember and honor officers who died while serving their community.

As part of National Police week, the sheriff's office held a memorial for three Hawkins County deputies: Gerald "Bubba" Gibson, John Wesley Wright and Drew Harrell, as well as every officer who fell across the country who died will on patrol.

Sheriff Ronnie Lawson says it's their duty to never forget their fallen colleagues.

"These men and women in law enforcement, they will give their lives to do the right thing, and I'm proud of the officers in my command. I have a very good staff, and that's my biggest worry, losing another officer under my command," said the sheriff.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, 584 Tennessee officers have died in while serving to protect their families, friends and neighbors.
