The TBI announced the crime rate in Anderson County is down, but stats show the average inmate population has increased at the same time.

According to TBI statistics, the crime rate dropped by 10 percent from 2012 to 2013 and has dropped by a third since 2007, from nearly 7,500 crimes reported to fewer than 5,000.

Local authorities are also solving more cases than they have in recent memory at a better than 40 percent rate.

However, the average number of inmates in Anderson County nearly doubled between 2006 and 2013.
