An East Tennessee family found comfort Monday through a generous act from a stranger.

Wanda Hickey presented the Goins family with a quilt she made in honor of their late husband and father, Michael Goins.

The 41-year-old Marine veteran and public safety officer at McGhee Tyson Airport died in an off-duty accident earlier this month.

Hickey says she decided to make a patriotic quilt to give to the Goins family after she heard about Goins' death. She thought Memorial Day would be an appropriate time to give it to them.

"Memorial Day means a lot to me, because my dad was in the Army for 23 years. And my husband was in the Army for 23 years. And it's just something special in my heart. It means a lot to me," said Hickey.

"It took a lot of time and effort and I really do appreciate it a whole lot. It'll be treasured by our whole family," said April Goins, Michael's widow.

Goins says she will put the quilt on display inside her home where everyone can see it.
